Emma & Kyle | A Peterson Dumesnil Wedding in Louisville, KY

When I first spoke with Emma about her wedding day at the Peterson Dumesnil House, she was dealing with a home disaster.  A leak in her kitchen had caused some major issues and she was juggling contractors and not being able to use part of her home.  But what struck me about her during that phone conversation was that, even though this chaos was going on around her, she was absolutely serene.  I think that word perfectly describes the beauty of Emma and Kyle’s wedding day.  It was serene and relaxed – the perfect emotions for the perfect day.

There’s so many moments I could tell you about this wedding day at the Peterson-Dumesnil House.  The emotional first look between Dad and daughter (“Kyle’s a good lad!”), the champagne toast in a vintage Silver Cloud Rolls-Royce, one of the most joyful first dances that we’ve ever photographed.   I could tell you how I kept thinking “their parents must be so proud of them” or how I almost teared up during the portrait with the Mother of the Bride and her beautiful daughters.  Or I could share about the sentimental details – the mirror that has appeared in 3 generations of bridal portraits and the vintage lace handkerchief made by nuns at a convent in Ireland.

But I think my favorite moment of the day was right after the first look.  We pointed out a shaded area to Kyle and Emma where we wanted to take some portraits.  They started walking towards it and as we snapped a few photos, they just kept walking, engrossed in a conversation.  I didn’t have the heart to stop them.  They were so caught up in one another that nothing else mattered and it was the sweetest moment.  Jeremy and I love when our couples love each other so much that they forget we’re even there.  Besides, that’s when we get the very best portraits.  😉

Kyle and Emma, it was such a privilege to be part of your wedding day. Your joy, your love for each other and your families and just your kindness to those around you (including us!) matters so much and we are thankful to know you!
